[1]LETus therefore fear, while the prom ise of entering into his rest remains, lest some amongst you find they are prevented from entering. [2]Forthe gospel was preached to us, as it was to them also, but the word they heard did not benefit them: because it was not mixed with faith in those who heard it. [3]Butwe who have believed will enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, they shall not enter into my rest; for behold, the works of God were from the very foundation of the world. [4]Forhe said concerning the sabbath, God rested on the seventh day from all his works. [5]Andhere again he said, They shall not enter into my rest. [6]Therewas a chance for some to enter therein, but they to whom the gospel was first preached did not enter, because they would not listen: [7]Andagain, after a long time he appointed another day, as it is written above, for David said, Today if you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. [8]Forif Joshua the son of Nun had given them rest, he would not afterward have spoken of another day. [9]Itis therefore the duty of the people of God to keep the Sabbath. [10]Forhe who has entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. [11]Letus strive therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall like those who were disobedient. [12]Forthe word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the point of division between soul and spirit, and between the joints and marrow and bones, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. [13]Andthere is no creature which is hidden from his sight: but all things are naked and open before the eyes of him to whom we are to answer. [14]Wehave, therefore, a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus Christ, the Son of God; let us remain firm in his faith. [15]Forwe do not have a high priest who cannot share our infirmities, but we have one who was tempted with everything as we are, and yet without sin. [16]Letus, therefore, come openly to the throne of his grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
