[1]Andwhen they drew near to Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the Mount of the Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
[2]Sayingto them, Go into the town that is over against you, and soon ye shall find an ass bound, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
[3]Andif any man say ought unto you, say ye, that the Lord hath need of them, and straightway he will let them go.
[4]Allthis was done that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Prophet, saying,
[5]Tellye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek and sitting upon an ass, and a colt, the foal of an ass used to the yoke.
[6]Sothe disciples went, and did as Jesus had commanded them,
[7]Andbrought the ass and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and set him thereon.
[8]Anda great multitude spread their garments in the way: and other cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
[9]Moreover,the people that went before, and they also that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, Blessed be he that cometh in the Name of the Lord, Hosanna thou which art in the highest heavens.
[10]Andwhen he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
[11]Andthe people said, This is Jesus the Prophet of Nazareth in Galilee.
[12]AndJesus went into the Temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the Temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
[13]Andsaid to them, It is written, Mine house shall be called the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
[14]Thenthe blind, and the halt came to him in the Temple, and he healed them.
[15]Butwhen the chief Priests and Scribes saw the marvels that he did, and the children crying in the Temple, and saying, Hosanna the Son of David, they disdained,
[16]Andsaid unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus said unto them, Yea: read ye never, By the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast made perfect the praise?
[17]Sohe left them, and went out of the city unto Bethany, and lodged there.
[18]Andin the morning as he returned into the city, he was hungry,
[19]Andseeing a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said to it, Never fruit grow on thee hence forwards. And soon the fig tree withered.
[20]Andwhen his disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered!
[21]AndJesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, if ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do that, which I have done to the fig tree, but also if ye say unto this mountain, Take thyself away, and cast thyself into the sea, it shall be done.
[22]Andwhatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, if ye believe, ye shall receive it.
[23]Andwhen he was come into the Temple, the chief Priests, and the Elders of the people came unto him, as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
[24]ThenJesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask of you a certain thing, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
[25]Thebaptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? Then they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say from heaven, he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
[26]Andif we say, Of men, we fear the people: for all hold John as a Prophet.
[27]Thenthey answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
[28]Butwhat think ye? A certain man had two sons, and came to the elder, and said, Son, go and work today in my vineyard.
[29]Buthe answered and said, I will not: yet afterward he repented himself, and went.
[30]Thencame he to the second, and said likewise. And he answered, and said, I will, Sir: yet he went not.
[31]Whetherof them twain did the will of the father? They said unto him, The first. Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the Publicans and the harlots shall go before you into the kingdom of God.
[32]ForJohn came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the Publicans, and the harlots believed him, and ye, though ye saw it, were not moved with repentance afterward, that ye might believe him.
[33]Hearanother parable, There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and made a winepress therein, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a strange country.
[34]Andwhen the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen to receive the fruits thereof.
[35]Andthe husbandmen took his servants and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
[36]Againhe sent other servants, more than the first: and they did the like unto them.
[37]Butlast of all he sent unto them his own son, saying, They will reverence my son.
[38]Butwhen the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, and let us take his inheritance.
[39]Sothey took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
[40]Whentherefore the Lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to those husbandmen?
[41]Theysaid unto him, He will cruelly destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall deliver him the fruits in their seasons.
[42]Jesussaid unto them, Read ye never in the Scriptures, The stone which the builders refused, the same is made the head of the corner? This was the Lords doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
[43]Thereforesay I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and shall be given to a nation, which shall bring forth the fruits thereof.
[44]Andwhosoever shall fall on this stone, he shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him into powder.
[45]Andwhen the chief Priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
[46]Andthey seeking to lay hands on him, feared the people, because they took him as a Prophet.
